Ayurvedic Treatments

CAM therapy students believe that everything in the universe - dead or alive - is connected. If your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe, you are in good health. If anything interferes with this balance, you get sick. Among the factors that may contribute to this are genetic or congenital disorders, trauma, climate change and seasonal changes, age, and mood swings. Those who practice Ayurveda believe that everyone is made of five basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water, and earth. Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the oldest healing remedies in the world (“whole body”). It was founded more than 3,000 years ago in India. It is based on the belief that health and well-being depend on a balance between the mind, the body, and the spirit. Its main purpose is to improve health, not to fight disease. But treatment may be directed at specific health problems. In the United States, it is considered a complementary therapist (CAM) .These combine in the human body to form three forms of life or energy, called doshas. They control how your body functions. They are Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and land). Everyone gets a unique combination of three doshas. Vata Dosha Those who practice Ayurveda believe that this is the most powerful of all doshas. It regulates the body's basic functions, such as how cells divide. It also controls your brain, breathing, blood flow, heart function, and the ability to excrete waste through your intestines. Disorders include eating and immediately after eating, fear, depression, and insomnia. If vata dosha is your main life force, it is thought that you have a good chance of developing conditions such as anxiety, asthma, heart disease, skin problems, and arthritis. But one is often stronger than the other. Each controls a different body function. It is believed that your chances of getting sick - and the health problems you develop - are linked to the balance of your doshas.
